UK-based bookmaker Fitzdares has received its iGaming operator registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

The British bookie has cleared the first major hurdle required to begin operations in the Canadian province, whose regulated online gambling market will launch on 4 April.

However, while securing AGCO registration is a big step, Fitzdares must still execute an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario and receive final approvals.

This will delay the bookie’s arrival in the province. While other operators will go live on launch day, Fitzdares expects to debut its betting service this summer. Nevertheless, the company remains undeterred, counting on its “customer-focused experience” to see off the competition.

“We are truly excited to be launching the Fitzdares experience in Ontario in the coming months,” said William Woodhams, Fitzdares CEO.

“Receiving our AGCO licence is a landmark achievement for the business. There will be huge competition in this newly regulated market, but we feel our more premium and customer-focused experience will be an ideal fit.

“Work is very much underway to ensure that we deliver on our promise – in style. I would like to thank the teams at both the AGCO and iGaming Ontario for supporting us with our application and preparations for launch.”

When the bookmaker eventually goes live in Ontario, Canada will become the third country where Fitzdares operates real-money online gaming, after the UK and Ireland.
