The Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) has created a new casino law that is intended to protect the casino industry from financial fraud or misuse of financial instruments.

The bill was signed earlier by the former Governor Victor, but introduced by the current lieutenant governor Arnold Palacios. The new rule was formulated to insulate the casino industry from fraudulent crimes, such as fake credit cards, money laundering and stolen identification.

The governor said that the chances of financial fraud in the CNMI are greater now as all senatorial districts have legalised casino gaming. The bill is an attempt to counter the potential.
